Fa Yun Monastery

Fa Yun Monastery

Welcome to Fa Yun Monastery, a Buddhist monastery in New Mexico.

Buddhism is a religion of peace and compassion for all sentient beings. It especially accentuates the inner peace and equality to all. In order to achieve the inner peace, one has to refrain from doing evil deeds by observing the percepts. Through intensive meditation with prajna (insight wisdom), Buddhists are able to reduce and further eliminate ones greed, hatred and ignorance. Thus minimizing conflicts and live harmoniously among all sentient beings.

The Fa Yun Monastery is a Buddhist Institution with vigorous meditation practices. Founded by Venerable Miu King in 1990, Fa Yun Monastery's first campus was in California. Later in 1996, Fa Yun Monastery established a subsidiary Institute for Buddhist Studies.

Subsequently the bhikkhu (monks) monastery has been moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1998 and is known as the North Campus or Fa Yun Monastery. A year later, the Bhikkhunis (nuns) monastery was relocated in Vadito, New Mexico. It is currently known as the South Campus or Fa Yun Prajna Monastery. The two locations strive to train qualified Buddhist monks and nuns who will one day uplift Buddhism by propagating the Buddhist Teachings.

Here, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce to you the founder, Venerable Miu King, and some of the monastic activities. With this brief introduction, we hope you will have better understanding about our mission, and instill greater interest in studying Buddhism, that will lead you to the profound prajna (insight wisdom) one day.
